Man. Have we had a rough couple of weeks or what?! I had so many plans that have gone awry these last two weeks so I will try and backtrack and share some of the highlights and if you’re morbidly curious like I am, I’ll share of our illness details–fun!
So it all started on Thursday, March 15 (gosh we’ve been sick FOREVER!) with Louis waking up with a fever. We were able to manage it at home over the weekend and he seemed to be fine come Monday. His little sister Judy however, woke up saying she couldn’t pee so cut to me calling the pediatrician and them telling me to rush her to the ER where we found ourselves for the next two hours trying to figure out what was wrong. She ended up having a bacterial infection in her lady bits and it was traumatic but the doctors at Huntsville Women’s and Children ER were AMAZING and we were sent home with a clean bill of health for both kids! Phew!
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday it was business as usual–some lingering coughs which made sleeping for this mama impossible–but otherwise it seemed all was good! So we went downtown on Thursday where I picked up these gorgeous loafers from the incredible new boutique, Kennedy & Rowe.
Friday is Judy’s ballet class–which is basically the highlight of my week–and right before we were about to leave Louis said his eye was bothering him (he has dry eyes) so I gave him his drops and went to finish fold some laundry real quick. A few minutes later, he’s back telling me his eyes hurt, so I take a another look and their oozing. Gah! So I drop him off to my Mom and Dad and run Judy to ballet since I don’t want Lou to infect all the tiny dancers. While at class, my Mom takes Lou’s temperature and it’s 100. Not again!! So I call Joe, and ask him to pick up Louis on his way home from work and take Lou to urgent care.
This is of course at 5 pm on Friday so they get stuck in traffic and after class Judy and I are hangrily waiting on the boys. They finally get home with some eye drops and all is supposedly well for our little Spider Man.
Judy is feeling good on Saturday so we head to one of her besties’ birthday party while the boys hang at home. Happy Birthday Lauryn!
I was super bummed Louis couldn’t come since this was our first time at Chuck e Cheese but we had a great time and I know we’ll go back!
Sunday morning I wasn’t feeling right but just assumed it was exhaustion as I don’t sleep when the kids are sick, which at this point had been like nine days. Sooo I climbed into bed to relax with a movie while Joe made THIS (<–click that link) amazing movie with Judy…
I don’t know if it’s mom goggles but this is pretty much the best little video ever! Anywho–so as these guys are off being creative and adorable, my fever spikes to 104 and I pretty much just writhe around all day with the world’s worst sore throat, ear ache and chills (Oh! And Aunt Flo came to visit! Keeping the good times rollin!). Later that night, Louis still has a fever despite having visited the Urgent Care office on Friday and Judy’s eyes are now oozing soooo I call their after hours amazing pediatrician and nurse at Huntsville Pediatrics and am told to come in first thing in the morning. After another sleepless night, Monday morning finally rolls around and off to the doctor we go again! Living our best life!
Turns out Louis actually has an ear infection, tonsillitis, and viral pink eye–Judy is still on antibiotics from her lil incident so she gets her ears cleaned out as a precaution–we get the antibiotics for Lou and we’re off! Thank goodness for my Mom who came along to the appointment and then took us all home (as I was fading fast) and got the prescription (which was sent to the wrong Target pharmacy, natch) and picked us up treats to occupy the kids and soup for me–she my rock.
Joe then comes home early from work as the germs are circling in on him and he’s feeling awful. I rally and make taco soup for dinner and we manage to end the day with the kids seeming slightly better and mostly happy–I’ll take it! Unfortunately, I don’t sleep at ALL as it feels like my ears are about to explode and my darling husband is coughing up a lung next to me. Well it turns out that all the coughing makes Joe pull his hernia–I mean, COME ON??!! So he and I go to Urgent Care again to get both of us checked out cause I’m about to lose it–I am a big believer in the “Mind over Matter” mantra so I rarely go to the doctor for anything other than a checkup, but after all this I needed some help! We had an awesome (if one can) experience at QC Wellness Pharmacy and QuickCare in Madison where we got blood work, chest x-rays, streptococcus and flu swabs and determined we both were suffering from the same cold virus the kids had been–thankfully they can give grownups the goods drugs lol and we were given a steroid shot (um, OUCH! Those suckers hurt and I had natural child births so you know I’m not exaggerating!) and Zithromax Z-packs to speed up our recovery. Once we we’re home, I took a blissful nap while my amazing Mom watched the kids and then I Lysol’d the house for the millionth time and did my 84th load of laundry. Joe went to work for a few hours and we are all now desperately hoping to get back to our routines and health!
If you have any tips to keep this from happening to us again next April–third time would NOT be the charm in this case–I’m all ears! Email me or drop me a comment!
