For the long weekend, we took a quick drive down to Birmingham and had a great time!
Since Joe also had off on Friday, we drove down Thursday evening and stayed at The Hotel Highland in the Five Points area of downtown Birmingham. I always like staying downtown when I visit a city, even if that means paying extra. I like to be able to walk out the front door and have things for us to do. And The Highland definitely fit the bill!
After getting settled, we walked a block over to this great pizza place called Little Italy Pizza & Pints…note, the hotel lobby has coupons for this place. Score! It was nothing fancy but it was delicious and kid friendly!
We decided to walk the ten blocks to get there since the weather was so gorgeous. It’s a great city for walking, sidewalks the whole way and lots of friendly people to point you in the right direction.
Now back to the museum….if you have kids (or are a kid at heart) this place is really a must see! There are three floors and each one is just incredible.
The first floor featured a bunch of hands on science activities that kids can enjoy but the thing my kids were really excited to check out was the Itty Bitty City on the next floor!
Once we dragged them away from this floor, we headed over to the dinosaur exhibit and finished at the under water exhibit.
This is the look of one happy lady!

This morning my husband surprised us with a quick road trip up to Nashville! I didn’t even know where we were going until we hit the road at 7 this morning. It was such a perfect trip and just what the family needed!
We started out by going to TN flea market which is the largest in the country! Didn’t really find much but you really need to dig for the good stuff and that’s hard to do with two littles tagging along.
After that, we went to Green Hills mall where we stopped at Nordstrom and Banana Republic…both of which we sadly don’t have in Huntsville. We do have a Jcrew but that didn’t stop me from shopping at this one too 😉
Then we went to my beloved Trader Joes and out for brunch at our favorite, Noshville. Joe and I used to go there when we lived in Nashville as newlyweds.
We capped it all off with a stop at Draper James and Sprinkles! Sometimes the husband really gets it right!
